Devprayag Sangam

Devprayag is a small town in the Tehri Garhwal of Uttarakhand state in North India which is a religious hub, where rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi confluences. It is quite popular among pilgrims, seeking solitude close to nature.

Significance of Devprayag

There is a great significance of Devprayag in the Hindu religion. In Sanskrit language, Prayag refers ‘confluence’ and Devprayag means for ‘holy confluence’. In Devprayag, the confluence of two holy rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi to form Ganga river.

River Bhagirathi starts from Gangotri whereas Alaknanda originates from Badrinath. Both of the places are considered sacred destinations for Hindus across the world.

Devprayag is the last Prayag of River Alaknanda in Panch Prayag. According to legends, Lord Rama and the King Dushratha did penance here. There is an ancient temple dedicated to Raghunathji built above the confluence with massive rocks.

 It is believed that the temple is more than ten thousand years old. There is also a small water spring known by Baitalshila, which cures leprosy. The place is accessible around the year and can be visited anytime.

The nearest railway station to Devprayag is located at Rishikesh which is 72 km from here. The nearest airport to Devprayag is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. From where you can take a bus or hire a taxi to get here.

Devprayag is well connected by major cities and towns of Uttarakhand by road. Devprayag is located on the National Highway 58, making it easy to reach from most prominent cities.

Best Time to Visit Devprayag

Devprayag is a place where you can be visited anytime around the year. Summers is a pleasant season which has ample amount of sunshine. Whereas, winters are quite cold and freezing due to the location and altitude, but with warm clothes, it can be enjoyable. Monsoons season is also quite pleasant that makes the place an all-time favourite among pilgrims and adventure lovers.
